St. Joseph’s Catholic Chaplaincy was started in 1975 by Rev. Fr. Kasule [late] to take care of the spiritual needs of the patients at Mulago National Referral Hospital. In 1988, Fr. Kamoga as the chaplain commenced the work of constructing the present chapel which was completed in 1992 and inaugurated by Emmanuel Cardinal Wamala, the Archbishop Emeritus of Kampala Archdiocese. The Chaplaincy has grown up under the pastoral care of the following priests: Fr. Harry Tullemanns, CSSp, Fr. Joseph Shio, CSSp, Fr. Joseph Kamya, Fr. Festo Adrabo, CSSp, Late Fr. Charles Walimbwa, CSSp, Fr. Gregory Mallya, CSSp, Fr. Nicodemus Massong, CSSp, Fr. Martin Andama, CSSp, Fr. Nicholas Kerebba, CSSp, Fr. Mulyanga Peter, CSSp, Fr.  Kofi Buor Offeh, CSSp and Fr. Vincent Ascencio Waiga, CSSp. We acknowledge and thank the previous leadership for their contributions and achievements because the Chaplaincy has grown in both activities and in numbers.

St. Joseph’s Catholic Chaplaincy Mulago Hospital community is a Roman Catholic Community of the Archdiocese of Kampala in Uganda under the pastoral leadership of the Congregation of the Holy Spirit. As members of Christ’s body we are working for the Spiritual, Social and Health of the sick in Mulago National referral Hospital. Though diverse we are all united through Baptism and empowered by the Holy Spirit, nourished by the word of God and the Sacraments and called to continue the mission of Jesus by being a sign and instruments of God’s Kingdom of truth, peace, Justice and love.

Presently, our community is enriched with many gifts ranging from two Priests: Fr. Valentine Onyewuchi Amuneke CSSp, Fr. Godfrey Maliamungu, CSSp, Doctors, Administrators, Nurses, Midwives, Clinical officers, councilors, Medical Students and above all the patients. Therefore, our ministry is for whole and the wellbeing of the humanity.
